Details
General-purpose crushed base stone. Grade 9 contains the fines along with the larger pieces — those fines are what let it pack down rock-hard under compaction. This is the base layer contractors use before pouring concrete or laying asphalt.
For driveways, a 4–6" base of Grade 9 compacted well takes the weight of trucks and heavy equipment without rutting. Tan in color, utilitarian look — functional more than decorative.
