Details
Compressed sphagnum peat moss — the classic soil amendment for two opposite problems: holds water in fast-draining sandy soil, and opens up heavy clay so roots can breathe. Mix in at roughly 25–50% by volume into the native soil when preparing a new bed.
Slightly acidic (pH ~4.0–5.0), which makes it the right amendment for acid-loving plants: blueberries, azaleas, rhododendrons, hydrangeas. Also a reliable seed-starting medium on its own. 3.8 cu ft per bag expands to about 7–8 cu ft when loosened.
